I didn’t learn about Jardin de Balata until I got to Martinique so it was really an afterthought. But this is not your typical botanical garden. It is a gorgeous, scenic oasis in Martinique that rivals the best gardens I have seen. I know very little about different types of flowers–except which ones I find pretty–so this post will be a photo essay, letting the beautiful pictures speak louder than words.
Jardin de Balata
Even though the garden wasn’t in full bloom, the garden is a lush oasis with flowers, bamboo, trees, and ponds sprinkled throughout the area.
The road is windy to get there but once you make it, you won’t be sorry.
Hillside Views
The highlight of Jardin de Balata is the hillside views. As you work your way around the garden, you descend into an absolutely stunning opening in the trees.
And the view is so picturesque it doesn’t seem real. The hillside and horizon are visible as far as the eyes can see.
Canopy Bridge
If you know anything about me at all, you know that there was no way I was doing the canopy bridge in the garden. They would only allow two people on the segments at a time. It was too rich for my blood. The bridge circled around the perimeter of the garden, giving aerial views.
When you travel to Martinique, make sure to visit Jardin de Balata. Entry is only 13 Euro, and it is so well worth it for the gorgeous, colorful flowers and the amazing view and scenery the garden offers.
This place looks lovely, and your images are stunning. I would definitely love to visit this garden. Bad for my allergies..but l would still enjoy it. :-). I most definitely would not do that Canopy Bridge either..mmm..no thank you!
Kemkem, it was gorgeous. And all of these pics were taken with my iPhone! Not even my true DSLR! Yeah, and the canopy bridge…no.
What a wonderful experience you had in Martinique. I am also a novice when it comes to gardening. Leave it to the pros. But I do enjoy walking and admiring the beautiful flowers at various Botanical gardens I’ve visited in the pass in New York City. Jardin de Balata seems like a wonderful and serene place to visit. Love your graphic.
Patrice, ditto! When I say I kill EVERY plant, I mean it. I once killed a plant that was sitting on the edge of my sink…because I forgot to water it. :-/
Absolutely beautiful! I’ve never heard of Jardin de balata. The gardens were beautiful, you are going to make me put this on my travel list!
Thsee pictures are BEAUTIFUL. I am not much of an outside person but these photos make me want to visit this spot.
How gorgeous! You did a great job with these pictures. Feel like I’m right there.
That makes me happy, Stacie, because I only had my iPhone on this trip! Score!
Martinique is such a beautiful island. The Canopy bridge looks awesome, but I don’t know if I would have done it either.
Those flowers are beautiful! I’ll keep this location in mind when visiting Martinique- beautiful!!
Gorgeous photos!!! I felt like I was right there, in the moment.
Thanks Jay! And they were taken with an iPhone! 🙂
I love botanical gardens, but the way my allergies are set up they don’t love me the same. The canopy bridge I would so do.
Girl, you are a good one. Because there was no way I was setting foot on that bridge. All of the nopes!
awesome photos. You captured the nature’s beautiful to perfection.
Beautiful!
