When researching hotels to stay at on the second stop of my Southeast Asia trip in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the immediate choice that stuck out was the DusitD2 Chiang Mai. So when we got the opportunity to get a special media discount to stay, we jumped at the opportunity. And we weren’t disappointed. Here are some highlights of our stay in my DusitD2 Chiang Mai review.
Location
The DusitD2 is centrally located in Chiang Mai. Not only is it close to the more “touristy” areas, but it is right around the corner from one of the night markets in Chiang Mai. There are two well-known night markets. One is every night, and is right around the corner from the hotel. The other is the Sunday night market where vendors come and set up stalls. That market is only a short 5-10 minute ride from the DusitD2.
Everyone recommends attending the Sunday night market, and given the DusitD2’s location, it is easy to get there and get some souvenirs and more.
In fact, the DusitD2 is so well known and has such a great location, that literally every tuk tuk and minibus driver we encountered knew the hotel and its whereabouts. It is also a major pickup spot for tours in the Chiang Mai area as well, which is an added bonus. When getting around Chiang Mai, you will not be disappointed with the location of the DusitD2.
The Vibe
The vibe of the DusitD2 is felt as soon as you walk in the door. Open and airy, the hotel has a classy yet trendy vibe to it. The lobby is fully adorned with ample seating, tables, and trendy decor that immediately catches your eye. The orange signature color of the DusitD2 isn’t overbearing and actually brings a playfulness to the area. The restaurant is also open and is really massive. We actually spent some time during happy hour at the lobby bar just relaxing on the couches people watching and cooling down.
When we checked in, we were immediately met with refreshing beverages (it was super hot in Thailand) and the DusitD2 was accommodating of our need for early checkin. You definitely get the vibe that everything is open and relaxing at the hotel, even with the upscale appointments.
The Room
The room is actually quite spacious, and we were pleasantly surprised. There was actually room for two double beds and a desk, along with a comfy couch situated in the window where a slightly shorter or smaller person could sleep. Even though we didn’t have a view, the room had good light and didn’t feel closed in at all, even with the extra bed/sofa occupied.
The bathroom featured a full-sized tub and shower combination. It’s rare that a nice sized tub can fit into a hotel bathroom so this was also a plus. The bathroom had upscale appointment and clean lines and was very modern and clean.
There was also quite a bit of storage area. There were shelves under the TV for us to store things on and under. In the closet there was also plenty of shelving and drawers as well. And, in fact, by the sofa bed area, there was a coffee, tea, and water station for us to enjoy in the morning, along with water for the hot Chiang Mai days. Definite score.
The Food
The breakfast buffet at the DusitD2 is top notch. There was several different stations with different cuisines. Of course, there was the American breakfast station with eggs, bacon, fruit, etc. And there was an omelette, waffle, and French toast station as well. But there was also a Thai cuisine station that featured various types of noodle dishes, Fried rice, pepper chicken, and more. In fact, this ended up being our favorite area for getting a filling meal before a long day of exploring. I can definitively say that I had more than my fair share of noodles on this trip, thanks in part to the breakfast buffet at the DusitD2.
As a complimentary birthday treat, the DusitD2 treated us to a multiple course meal featuring traditional Thai dishes. As an aside, the dining room is absolutely stunning, featuring various types of art and great appointments on the walls and tables. We had so many different courses, including Yum Tua Poo Goong Sod, a sliced wing bean topped with minced pork, prawns, shallots, and egg. It was absolutely amazing! We also enjoyed Sii Krong Moo Yang, which is slow cooked pork spareribs with a sweet and sour sauce, and Kaeng Kae Kai, a northern style Thai chicken curry. They were even able to accommodate my friend who is vegetarian with a delicious vegetable soup as well. We were literally stuffed from the six courses, and the food was delicious. There was something for everyone.
The Extras
One of the nicest features about the DusitD2 is their airport pickup service with notice. This was super helpful since we were kind of last minute figuring out our airport transportation arrangements. Additionally, because Thailand has monsoon season, they always have plenty of umbrellas that you can use as you are going and coming, which is a nice touch. And of course, they have a lovely spa space if you need a nice massage or treatment. They also offer cooking classes for those interested in learning more about Thai cuisine!
Overall DusitD2 Chaing Mai Review
Overall, I definitely enjoyed our stay at the DusitD2, and I am so glad my friend Nadeen at The Sophisticated Life told me about this property. The food was excellent (we were nice and full every morning), and the room was spacious, with the sofa bed area really taking it up a notch, as it is perfect if you have an additional person/child. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Chiang Mai, and when I am back in the region, I will definitely be staying here again. It was the perfect choice.
This hotel provided me with a media discount to stay, however, all opinions are my own.
I am glad you enjoyed the Dusit2 Hotel. The location can’t be beat and the staff was wonderful. I miss that delicious breakfast buffet! I also highly recommended the Thai cooking class offered there. It was one of my favorite experiences.
Oh my goodness! This hotel sounds absolutely amazing! I have never been outside of the United States but this definitely makes me want to try my hand at traveling some. The food looks so delicious!
